MCC Students Garner Theatre Awards

Artists of Promise PosterArtists of PromiseStudents from Mesa Community College’s Theatre & Film Arts Department garnered numerous awards at the MCCCD Artists of Promise Competition held on March 1, at the Theatre Outback. Artists of Promise is an arts competition sponsored by the Maricopa County Community College District and is open to any student from the 10 community colleges within the district.

Brianna Taft won 1stPlace as Female Actor, and Laurence Lilagan earned an Honorable Mention in the Male Actor category. In Theatre Design, Tasia Mercadante took 1stPlace for Makeup Design; Tyler Scrivner took 2ndPlace for Set Design; and, Solomon Cruz took 3rdPlace for Sound Design. All designs were from MCC’s production ofZorro (Z)that was produced in December, 2012.

All actors were taught by Kevin Dressler, and designers were mentored by Kara Thomson, Kay Townsend and Christopher Tubilewicz.

On Tuesday, April 16, a gala performance and exhibition honoring the 2013 Chancellor Award Winners of MCCCD's student visual art, choreography, creative writing, theatre and music competitions will take place at the Orpheum Theatre from 6-9 pm.
